8th Annual Action For Distraction 5K

Sat May 9, 2020 Even on the treadmill!, NJ 07962 US Directions

The Action For Distraction will be VIRTUAL this year!

It is with a heavy heart that we have to tell you that this year’s LIVE, IN PERSON Action For Distraction is being cancelled by The Foundation of Morristown Medical Center out of an abundance of caution for the flu, COVID-19 and other seasonal illnesses, as well as in keeping with the CDC guidelines on social distancing.  While we are cancelling the live event on May 9th, we ARE keeping the event’s “Virtual 5K” option open!

The Rice Family has been spearheading this event for 8 years now, and our mission remains the same as what it has been since Zach came up with the idea when he was 10 and healing from his own medical issues:  Distracting kids from their pain while they're in the hospital.

-- What does doing the event virtually mean? --

You sign up, and we will send you your bib, medal and t-shirt (eventually .... we'll get the shirt out as soon as the printing company is open again) in the mail.  You put on the bib, run or walk your heart out at a location of your choosing that allows for social distancing, and proudly don your finisher's medal for doing something good for yourself, and the 25,000 kids that go through Goryeb Children's Hospital every year.

Here Are Your Options:

Virtual races happen all the time, and allow you to join the fun & the cause while still social distancing. Right now, especially, having something to look forward to and strive for is so important.  This option will allow you to work on fitness goals with your family, even though we can't be together n May 9th.  You can look at our activity logs at www.actionfordistraction.com to get training plans to give you a schedule, or work towards your goal on your own.  When you're ready to do the 3.1 miles, you simply run the distance on your own ... it doesn't even have to be on May 9th ... and report your results - we’ll send you instructions, along with your finisher's medals, bib and t-shirt (eventually ... we're not sure when the printing company is going to re-open)!

You understand that events are expensive, even when cancelled, and you want us to keep your registration fees to help cover our costs. Our goal remains the same:  to fund means of distraction for the 50,000 kids who go through Goryeb Children's Hospital every year.  We sincerely thank you for helping us reach that goal, despite the unfortunate circumstances we find ourselves in right now. We deeply appreciate your generosity and look forward to seeing you at an event soon!

We understand. We hope you can join us next time.
