Dewey Beach Sprint Triathlon History

The first Dewey Beach Sprint Triathlon was held on September 14, 1996. It was held in the back of what was then called Gary’s Surf Spray Café on New Orleans Street in Dewey Beach, Delaware. The after party was held on the roof of the building. The following year it was also held on the same street but quickly outgrew the venue and has been held in the Delaware Seashore State Park ever since. It’s a no frills, grass roots community event and a Dewey Beach tradition that brings athletes and their families from near and far to the resort area.

We have simply striven for a safe, enjoyable and fun triathlon with a fast and scenic course while keeping the money within our community.

FAQ

Q: Can I pick up a packet for my friend/brother/husband/daughter/neighbor, etc?
A:  Athletes may only pick up their own packets. Under no circumstances may an athlete pick up a packet for another person. All relay team members must be present at the same time to receive the packet, or you will have to split up the relay packet for each participant. All athletes are required to show a photo ID. NO ID, NO RACE, NO EXCEPTIONS. Every single participant, including relay participants, must have a photo ID. Youth athletes without an ID must be accompanied by a parent/guardian with a photo ID. Annual members are required to show their membership card if they did not register through an RTAV.

Q: Why is my Age 1 year older?
A: USAT Events use your age on 12/31/20 in order to normalize everyone competing across 1 calendar year.  So while your age on race day might be 49, if your birthday is after the event your age used for scoring, awards and wave placement would be 50.

Q: Can I go in a different wave?
A: If your wave is incorrect, please see a race official during packet pickup to have it corrected.

Q: Am I eligible for  the novice, clydesdale and age group categories all together?
A: No, you are only eligible for one category: Age Group, Clydesdale/Athena, or Novice, you can not be in more than one.

Q: Can I wear a Wetsuit?
A: Yes, the race will be wetsuit legal as an ocean swim.  If you do wear a wetsuit, your timing chip must be on the outside of the wetsuit in order for it to work.  Please pay extra attention not to the loose the chip when you take your wetsuit off.

Q: How can I find out my Bib and Wave Assignment?
A: All bib and wave info will be listed here: Find a Participant

Q: When do we rack our bikes?
A: All bike racking will be done on race morning.  You CAN NOT RACK YOUR BIKE ON FRIDAY.

Q: I'm in a relay, where do I exchange with my team member
A: All relays must exchange the timing chip at the bike rack. The timing chip must be worn by the participant competing at all times on the ankle.

Q: When do I pick up my timing Chip?
A: All timing chips will be handed out on race morning until 7:30 am.

Q: Do I have to wear the swim cap?
A: Yes, our lifeguards are in charge on this one.  For your safety, we MUST WEAR THE SWIM CAP WE GIVE TO YOU.

Q: How do I see my results?
A: Finish Results will be streamed instantly to: www.compuscore.com . Splits will be posted there as well shortly after the race.

Q: I am injured, can I get a refund?
A: There are no refunds, transfers or deferments for this race.

Q: Can I just give by bib to someone else, I already paid for it?
A: When you registered, you signed a waiver that you are the one participating.  Giving a bib to someone else who has not signed the waiver, has not given any safety information, emergency contact info, or any general info at all, it a safety risk for all involved and is extremely discouraged. Anyone caught wearing a bib that does not belong to them will be disqualified.
